The Insight to Taylor Williams

Taylor Williams

Taylor Williams was born in Chapel Hill 19 years ago. Both of her parents attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, so naturally you can imagine; she is a Tarheel fan. Williams however, decided to be different from her parents and become a Pirate at East Carolina University.

As a sophomore here majoring in Broadcast Journalism, Williams is determined to become a sports broadcaster. After graduation she plans to move to Florida to broadcast for ESPN. Williams recalled wanting to be a sportscaster for as long as she can remember. “I would watch sports on TV, listen to what the sportscasters would say, and then mock them in front of a mirror,” she laughs.

Growing up in Chapel Hill, Williams comes from a loving family. She has two younger sisters, Meredith and Emily.

“My sister is truly someone that is unlike anyone else; she is so Unique,” says younger sister Meredith. She described Williams as the “perfect sister.” “She takes the time everyday to call home and ask how the family is doing,” Meredith says.

Williams’ father Todd owns a floor covering business while her mother Dawn is a “stay at home” mom who cares for all three of the girls. There are three dogs as well; two black labs, Abby and Maggie, and a Chocolate lab, Sadie are a big part of the Williams family.

Attending Chapel Hill high school, Williams played many sports and was apart of several school clubs. She was an active member of the cheerleading squad and softball team. She got the best of both worlds in participating in these activities, she says.

In coming to ECU Williams’ main goal besides her education was to make a lot of friends. So, Williams went through fall sorority recruitment her freshman year and pledged for the sorority Alpha Omicron Pi. Williams’ sorority is now a major part of her life since she is taking on an officer position.

“Taylor is so devoted to Alpha Omicron Pi,” says best friend Lauren Piner, “Whenever someone needs a helping hand, Taylor is always there to step up and help out. She is the most caring person I have ever met.” Just as in her family, Williams now has little sisters in her sorority that look up to her with great respect.

The bond united Piner and Williams when pledging for the sorority together in 2006. Williams currently lives in the renovated sorority house this semester with her and other sisters. “We refurbished the house over the summer, and it is so beautiful and girly inside,” says Williams.

Williams currently has a boyfriend named Mik who she met at ECU. Her boyfriend is quite like her. He is very focused on school and his major of Sports Medicine.

“The best thing about Taylor would definitely be her personality. We clicked instantly,” says Mik. “In three words she is totally fun, caring and ambitious, added Mik.” The couple met through a common friend and has been together since May.

“If I could describe myself in three words they would be, ambitious, goal oriented and outspoken,” Williams says. Being a total beach person, she spent the whole past summer living at Myrtle Beach with her family.

Williams’ favorite food is her mom’s lasagna. She loves to shop. Shopping is away for her to relax and let go of all the stress in her life. William’s preferred store is Nordstrom’s where she can purchase her favorite True Religion jeans. Williams listens to all kinds of music but her first choice is country. With country being her favorite, Rascal Flats strike her fancy the most.

In her free time Williams chooses to go to the gym. This is also a place where she can let out all of her stress.

And with sports being a major part of her life, Williams can not live it with out the Dallas Cowboys. “With the NFL football season about to begin, I am going to be hooked to the television,” as Williams smiles.

When asked why football is so close to her Williams stated, “I think of those players and how they reached their dream. It makes me confident when trying to find my place as a Sports Newscaster. If they can fulfill their dream, so can I.”
