Beautiful, Outgoing, Caring
I have nine words to describe Amanda, “Beautiful, Lively, Well Rounded,” “Loyal, Loud, Loving,” “Beautiful, Open-Minded, Caring.” These nine words were given by her two friends Taylor Bell and Kalah Burke, and her mother Cary. Amanda also described herself as “Outgoing, Friendly, and Caring.”
Amanda Kitchen is a Sophomore here at East Carolina University. She was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia where she was a “Rebel” at Douglas South Hall Freeman High School.
She is very family oriented, her mother agrees. “She does enjoy being around her family.” When she left to attend ECU she left behind her mother who is a Nurse Practitioner, father who is the President of Medical Sales at a Richmond company, and her two brothers Chris and Daniel, who are a senior and a sophomore in high school.
At home she has three pets: a collie named Buddy and two cats Nala, (like the Lion King) and Tangles.
Since going to college Amanda has become very independent and more focused on her future beyond school. “I have only seen good things from her experience in college,” Says Amanda’s mother.
Amanda is planning to major in the communication program here at East Carolina and to become a physician’s assistant sometime in the future. During her first year as a freshman Amanda joined the sorority CHI OMEGA. As a member of the Greek community she enjoys going downtown with her sorority sisters or just parting at the sorority house.
She has also been caught by the pull of college football, and she and her sorority sisters like to go to the ECU football games to cheer on the Pirates. They like to tailgate outside the stadium before the games.
Amanda also loves to travel; she has already traveled with her family to Europe, specifically France, England, and Spain. She has also traveled to the St. Martins Islands. After graduation she would like to travel the world more. She would love to travel back to Europe, for example and Amanda wants to study abroad after graduation as well, either in Spain or in Australia.
As a sorority girl you could guess some things about her like her favorite music. Like a typical sorority girl she enjoys country (like Kenny Chesney). She also likes to listen to Jack Johnson and Dave Mathews. For the past few years Amanda has gone to see the annual Dave Mathews concert. But go ahead and take a guess at what her favorite movie is. The Notebook, Clueless, Pretty Woman, the typical chick flick. Wrong, Amanda’s favorite movie is The Boondock Saints, a movie that would come up most on a list of guy’s favorite movies.
When she joined the Sorority CHI OMEGA in the fall of 2006 she met Taylor Bell and Kalah Burke. I got up with Taylor and Kalah and asked them each a few questions about Amanda. I asked each what Amanda is like at home around her friends when she isn’t trying to impress anyone. Kalah said “Around her friends she is friendly and sociable.” Taylor answered the same question by saying, “When she is around her friends at times she can be quiet and then out of nowhere she says stuff that is hilarious. She is very sincere and caring.” I also asked each of them what her favorite things to do were. Taylor responded: “Amanda loves to talk. I know that she also likes to walk a lot, and we LOVE LOVE LOVE going out and having a great time.” Kalah said: “Her favorite things to do are taking long walks down 5th street, playing and cheering at intramural sports, and dancing.” After getting some background about Amanda she has turned out to not be exactly what I expected when I first saw her. She’s not the typical sorority
girl, she is very down to earth and considerate, and all around and enjoyable person to be around.
