Jersey Boy in the Carolinas
Kyle turned his chair slowly towards me, looked dead at me and said “I do not want to do this assignment.”
I immediately got the feeling that Kyle was unmotivated however, very funny without even trying. Although Kyle may think differently, describing himself as crazy and claiming that he “does a lot of stupid things.”
Kyle Barbehenn was born on May 18th, 1984 and lived in Moorestown, NJ until moving to Greenville, NC after graduating in 2003 from the local Moorestown high school. He is twenty-three years old and is currently a senior at East Carolina University where he is majoring in communications with a concentration in media production.
Keeping true to his northern roots, Kyle is a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan. He enjoys watching them in person as well as on television. The best Eagles game he ever attended was during the 2002 season when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers came to town for the NFC championship game.
Kyle had box seats and was immersed into a great atmosphere which contributed to him favoring this particular game over others. Kyle attended the game with a few friends and says that the “alcohol was flowing.” So even though the Eagles lost, this game was his favorite compared to the few others he had attended.
Kyle enjoys working out at the student recreation center Monday through Friday. He has been lifting weights for six years and has not missed more than one day in a row during this time.
To prove his dedication to pumping iron, Kyle has the scars to prove it. He has popped his bicep out twice and has suffered two hernias. He claims that “sometimes he can overachieve in the gym, and push his body to its limit.” He feels that this is the reason for his injuries.
He has never competed in weight lifting competition, but rather pushes himself because he “enjoys the high he receives from working so hard.”
In order to not miss more than one day in a row of working out, during his injuries he would work out body parts that weren’t affected by the injury.
His current goal is to work his way from four hundred and fifty pounds, to five hundred pounds on the bench press.
Aside from working out, Kyle also likes to take trips to Philadelphia for those world famous cheese steaks.
As well as enjoying going downtown, Kyle also works as a bouncer at Pantana Bobs, a local bar that is very popular in the Greenville area. He has worked there nearly two years.
When Kyle is not working but having fun downtown, he likes to drink whole bottles of Captain Morgan’s private stock until he gets completely obliterated drunk. He also enjoys shooting guns, particularly his AR 15 and shotguns.
He has an apartment at The Exchange which is one of Greenville’s newest and most popular living quarters. When he’s just hanging around his apartment he enjoys spending time with his girlfriend, cleaning his guns, downloading ballistic charts, watching television, and even putting on gloves and fighting his cat, Boxer.
Some of Kyle’s favorite movies include “House of a Thousand Corpses”, “Shooter”, and “Full Metal Jacket.” He enjoys these movies mostly due to the fact that “they are so immoral.”
After knowing Kyle for two years Kyle’s girlfriend, Jamie Makely, says that she would sum up Kyle as: very funny and crazy. She claims his best trait is his sense of humor.
Jamie recalls an embarrassing moment with Kyle as them getting extremely intoxicated and smashing his T.V. stand. Kyle than proceeded to pick up all the broken glass and his hands began to bleed all over the floor. Kyle was attempting to be funny because he was drunk, but it turned out injuring him.
Kyle’s girlfriend, Jamie, is very proud of him in the fact that every time they go anywhere together and meet her friends, they love Kyle. However, she goes on to point out that she can be very disappointed in him when he gets drunk and tries to fight people for no reason.
Jamie enjoys doing anything at all with Kyle and says that some activities he enjoys are lifting weights, shooting guns, or making movies.
Kyle’s second source of information comes from Monica Starnes, a friend. She has known him for a little over two years and describes him as crazy/reckless and funny is his best trait. “He is always joking around with me; I can always count on Kyle to make me laugh with a joke or story.” She also claims that she cannot recall a time when she was ever disappointed in Kyle.
Monica says that an embarrassing moment she experienced with Kyle is when she got too drunk and urinated on his bed while he was sleeping. She enjoys drinking with Kyle more than anything and when asked, she also said that “Kyle’s favorite activities were lifting weights and shooting guns.”
My final source came from Kyle’s roommate, Christian Hardy who has only known Kyle for a few months. He describes Kyle as “crazy and huge.” Like all others, he says Kyle’s best trait is “his humor.” An embarrassing moment that Christian experienced with Kyle is when Kyle screamed at the police in an I-hop during a late night and Christian had to drive him home.
Christian had the least amount of information on Kyle as he has not known him for very long, however he says that he “enjoys watching T.V with Kyle and partying with him,” and as the others, says “Kyle enjoys lifting weights from what he has seen.”
Kyle Barbehenn is a determined, driven and funny individual who is living life to the fullest as a college student. No one holds him back from what he wants to do, which I find very admirable. It is rare to meet honestly genuine people these days but Kyle is just that. He works hard and has great passion for the things he enjoys doing most in life.
