The Ryan Query Files
Ryan Query is a 22- year- old Media Studies major from Pinehurst, North Carolina, where he graduated from Union Pines High School in 2003. Ryan is currently a junior at ECU who plans on going into public relations upon graduating college. He lives on Elm Street and is a Warehouse Manager at Larry’s Carpet One in Greenville. He describes his job as boring but decent. Upon meeting Ryan, you get the impression that he is an easy going person who can get along with just about anybody.
On his off time, Ryan loves any day where he can just relax. He enjoys going downtown, mostly to 519, or Pantana Bob’s. Although going downtown for a night at the bars is always fun, he says he often hates himself the next day out of embarrassment when he becomes too intoxicated the previous night. All the same, he loves drinking beer. In fact the only beer Ryan does not have a taste for is Coors Light.
He is also an avid sports enthusiast. He enjoys watching all kinds of sports on television. Ryan is a dedicated Carolina Panther’s fan, and always attends at least one game during the season. Ryan also enjoys playing golf and Madden in his spare time. He watches sports center more than any other show, and is interested in sports journalism. He would love the chance to write about something as entertaining to him as sports.
Other activities that Ryan enjoys includes going to the beach with friends, as it is one of his favorite places. He also watches a lot of movies and television. His favorite movie is The Departed. Ryan’s taste for television shows reflect his eclectic range of interests in life. He enjoys Sports Center, comedies such as Family Guy, Seinfeld, and The Simpsons, documentaries such as Discovery channel’s Planet Earth, and other T.V. dramas such as Desperate Housewives, Weeds and Lost. Ryan collects hats, and claims to have an extensive hat collection to his name. His self-proclaimed favorite thing about East Carolina University, he says, is the girls.
Like most of us, when he graduates from college, Ryan is not yet sure of exactly what he wants to do. He would like to pursue a career in the field of public relations. Ryan is also very interested in sports casting or sports journalism as well. The subject of sports, in all its different forms, is something Ryan knows a lot about. It is also something he wouldn’t mind making a living writing or talking about. He wouldn’t consider this work, but rather, something he would do all day anyway.
Nicknamed Bub by his friends and family, people see Ryan as a likeable guy. He is a “genuinely nice guy,” Says his sister Allison.
“There was only one phase in our past when we didn’t talk and that was during high school for about a year, we kind of became enemies for a while.” Allison says she enjoys spending family holidays and vacations with Ryan.
Ryan’s cousin Joey, whom he has known for 20 years describes Ryan as patient and realistic.
“He never gets too far ahead of himself. He takes every situation as it comes. He has a real sense of patience. More than most people I know.” Says Joey.
He believes Ryan’s strongest trait is his well reserved and down to earth attitude. He sees Ryan as a very respectable person.
Joey says that a few years back he was staying with a girl at UNC Wilmington, and they had a bit of an altercation. Subsequently he was banned that night from the campus, and left stranded in the middle of nowhere. He says he had nowhere to go but ECU a few hours away. That night Ryan welcomed him at 4:00 AM with a smile and no complaints.
“I think that was a time when his true colors showed best, it is a good example of his character, he is always looking out for his friends and family.” Says Joey.
Ryan’s best friend and roommate, Brian Schevling, sees Ryan as a true sports fanatic. Brian’s favorite activity spent with Ryan is watching football. He also comments on Ryan’s great sense of determination.
“I think it is one of his best traits,” says Brian, “We played varsity football together in high school and I got the impression that Ryan refuses to give up ever. He has a great attitude when it comes to things like that.”
