Vice President: And Much More

Farah HussainVice President of the Student Union, Honors Programs and a member of the Student Government Association. These are just a few of the activities that make up Farah Hussain’s busy life.

On Oct. 7, 1986 Hussain was born in Queens, New York. At a young age she moved to Columbia, South Carolina where she lived for two years.

After leaving South Carolina her parents, Farah and younger brother all moved to Cary, North Carolina.

Farah attended high school in Cary, North Carolina and graduated in 2004 from Green Hope High School. She was then accepted to attend East Carolina University where she is studying psychology with a minor in communication.

Farah’s duties as Vice President of the Student Union include Homecoming, Lecture Series, Concerts and Conflict Resolution. “Being Vice President of Student Union is actually a lot more fun than one would assume. You get to meet a lot of people in agencies, and you learn how to network,” Farah said.

Farah is a senior with a very busy schedule. She is taking 16 hours and is a teacher assistant in a three credit hour psychology 1000 class.

With a schedule this hectic Farah still manages to make great grades.

“Farah amazes me with her ability to maintain such good grades. I guess you could say she is really good at time management.” Farah’s friend Sherry Lillington commented.

When Farah has any free time she enjoys going to Wilmington beach with her friends, but you won’t find her near the water because she doesn’t know how to swim. Other things that she enjoys are cooking, shopping and listening to music.

Some of her favorite musical groups are Radio Head, Maroon 5, Jack’s Mannequin, and Something Corporate.

Farah also likes to watch movies. Some of her favorite movies are Meet the Parents, Almost Famous and One Fine Day. Her favorite television shows are The Office and Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia. You can tell by the movies and TV shows Farah watches that she enjoys comedy.

Farah loves to eat, but you would never know by her slender physique. And from what I have been told by her friends, she is an excellent cook as well.

Her favorite foods are cheesecake and strawberries and she does not like cheese or Hershey’s milk chocolate. Her favorite beverages are Snapple and peppermint hot chocolate and caramel macchiatos from Starbucks.

Some other interests are meeting interesting people, jewelry, political debates on TV, and being around people that make her laugh. Farah’s political view is that of a Libertarian.

Farah is a very responsible and dependable person who can still go out with her friends and have fun.

“She likes having fun, but she appreciates the value of a plan and itinerary,” said Upama Zaman a cousin of Farah’s.

Although Farah does not know too much about sports she a fan of Duke basketball.

Some other interesting facts about Farah are that she is an expert when it comes to Photoshop, which is basically a program that allows you to alter pictures and edit things in and out of the photo. She also enjoys sewing and play scrabble.

Farah is also a very fashionable young lady, so you can bet she is always looking her best. Accessories like sunglasses and jewelry to designers such as Chanel and Elie Saab are some of the accessories that make up her wardrobe.

Farah Hussain is a very kind and thoughtful friend.

“I don’t remember ever fighting with her about anything. She is an extremely non-confrontational person,” Lillington said.

Farah Hussain is clearly a model student here at East Carolina University. After she finishes her schooling here at ECU you can be certain that Farah Hussain will be a very successful woman.

Farah’s friends say they could see her in Public Relations or a career in fashion. And if you ask Farah says that a career in Public Relations or a job as an event planner would be a dream come true.

Being the Vice President of the Student Union and all the other activities she participates in are all very impressive. From her record at ECU and what her friends say about her, a person could learn a lot from Farah Hussain about responsibility and dedication.
