Lady in Yellow

Analicia Brianne Robinson born August 22, 1988, is one of the kindest persons I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. When asked what her favorite color is, she replied, “Yellow, because it’s a happy color.” I found this to be very fitting the more I have gotten to know her. This happy young lady seems to wear her joy for life on her sleeve. Her Grandmother Donna adds, “She is such a joy to my life, I am always happier when I end my phone conversations.” Her Grandmother lives in Seattle, Washington which makes face-to-face interactions limited to only two trips a year when Analicia comes for a visit. Her father also resides in Seattle along with two of her brothers. When her parents divorced in 1994, her mother moved to North Carolina to pursue her career as a flight attendant.

Her mother and stepfather have supported Analicia’s career ambitions of a Public Relations Specialist for a public relations firm. Her mother Patrice says, “from the time she was young, she has been very motivated and driven to accomplish any goals that she sets. We are very proud of her and the woman she has become.” With this encouragement, Analecia plans to graduate next May before moving on to what her sister calls her “big girl job.” Analecia’s sister Gloria, has never known life without Analecia and says that “we get along very well. We have always been best friends and I know she is the one person in this world I can count on to be there for me and I for her.” Analicia feels extremely blessed to have such a wonderful support group and when asked what her favorite thing to do is, she responded with “spend time with my family.”

Analicia also takes time to spend with her boyfriend of one year, Gabriel Blair. “Gabe” as she calls him, played basketball for ECU before transferring to Whichita State in Kansas. Her long distance relationship has made her an even stronger person and when I spoke with him he said, “Analecia is a remarkable woman for enduring the transfer process. I was worried that she might not make it through since it was such a difficult time, but she stood by me and kept a positive attitude about the whole thing.” Although it has been difficult for her to adjust, Analicia has found that living alone isn’t so bad. Her best friend Tandrea even said “I think it’s been good for her, she needed this time to be the independent woman that she needs to be and to learn how to live life on her own.” Though Analecia begs to differ, she is learning that life goes by quickly and is living each day like it was her last. “I’ve learned not to take life for granted so I’m doing the best I can to make sure that each day counts for something.” This shows maturity beyond her years, which is rare in young women these days. After spending a significant amount of time with her, I know this happy lady in yellow is bound for nothing but success.
