“Seth is obsessed with sports,” says girlfriend Megan Honeycutt.

To his father a graduate and former football player from Wake Forest and his mother a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, it is to no surprise that Seth loves sports. Watching East Carolina Pirates, the Carolina Panthers and the Boston Red Sox couldn’t make him happier.

Seth Michael Firquin, born an only child on May 27, 1987 in Lexington, North Carolina, is a senior Communications major with a concentration in Public Relations. After receiving his undergraduate degree, Seth plans on obtaining his masters degree in Sports Management.

Seth is lucky to have a girlfriend who puts up with his constant need for ESPN and sports programming. Constantly looking for sports shows on TV, if a sporting event is not broadcasted on ESPN, Seth will watch other channels in hope of catching a sporting event. If there are no sports on TV that evening, Seth is happy to settle with re-runs of previous games.

Good friend Nathan Teague describes Seth as, “just a great guy who will do anything for anyone.”

Seth is a good person evidenced by the respect he receives from his friends. Seth takes his friendships seriously; being an honorable, trustworthy and good person in the eyes of his friends and family means a lot to him.

Childhood friend Andrew Barney describes Seth as “a very down to earth person and he may be the only person I know who will answer his phone 24/7 no matter what time it is.” His words uncannily echo the words of his other friend, “He will do anything for anyone.”

Seth’s friends also love just for being such a blast to be around. Seth goes downtown to bar hop with friends at least four times a week and has a great time doing so. Seth enjoys drinks like Jack and Coke or a simple Corona.

Seth has taken a roundabout route to East Carolina University. He originally attended UNC-Pembroke with a basketball scholarship. Unfortunately, he tore a ligament in his knee which ended his career in basketball. No longer being able to compete for Division 2 UNC-Pembroke, Seth transferred to Appalachian State University his sophomore year of college. Appalachian State did not satisfy Seth for long either, and his junior year he transferred to East Carolina.

Here at ECU is where Seth seems to be most settled. He is currently living in a house on Summit St with a few of his friends, and it is a “blast” to say the least. Seth and his roommates love having people over whether it is to relax or have a party.

When Seth isn’t around his house he enjoys going to the gym. Playing basketball and going to the recreation center here at ECU is a part of Seth’s daily schedule.

“He may be the most ADD person that I have ever met. He will be taking the dishes out of the wash and will put up a few plates and go do something else. Then, he will come back later on and do the same thing over until he gets all the dishes out. Even when he is dong his homework he will work on it for 5 to 10 minutes before getting distracted and starting to do something else. Even though he has never been diagnosed with it I am 100% sure that he has ADD or ADHD, which ever the case, he has it,” says friend Andrew Barney.

Seth may get distracted easily as described by his good friend, [but his friends can’t help but love him for it]. Loud, is how friend Nathan Teague described Seth, but Nathan went on to further state that is simply how Seth is and he wouldn’t want him to be any other way.

Whether Seth is being loud, getting side tracked or watching sports, one thing about Seth is: he just loves a good practical joke. Seth’s girlfriend Megan Honeycutt says Seth does it to her all the time.

“He will call sometimes and say something happened to him and I will get all worried and then it will all be a joke. I get really mad at him but I keep telling him that one day something is going to happen and I’m not going to believe him (Honeycutt).”

No matter what it is that Seth may be doing, one thing remains the same, Seth Firquin just enjoys having a good time. And for this fun, loving, good friend, having fun while he is here at ECU is just what he is going to do.
