Allow me to introduce you to Rachel Gaffney. Rachel is a twenty year old student at East Carolina. She is currently a junior and is loving college. She is from Raleigh, NC, and still goes home to see her family there. At home in Raleigh, Rachel works as a waitress at a restaurant/bar called Crowleys. She has been a waitress since age sixteen, and loves her job and the people she works with. Starting as a hostess, Rachel had to work her way up and learn how to be a waitress, which of course took a lot of training.
A communication major with a concentration in public relations, Rachel likes being involved with the media. She also has a minor in psychology, which really keeps her class load full. When she is not busy with class and schoolwork, Rachel likes to spend her time with her friends. She likes either going out or just hanging out together and being lazy. Among her friends is her older brother named Ben. He is twenty-six, and she is very close to him and her mom.
I spoke to Rachel’s best friend from Raleigh, Kattie and she had very interesting things to tell me about Rachel. “She is very passionate about everything she does,” Kattie said. Kattie also mentioned that anything that Rachel takes interest in, she puts everything into it. “I remember she used to love N’SYNC, and everything she had was N’SYNC,” Kattie said laughing. Rachel obviously takes a passion in her hobbies and interests. I also found out a couple of foods that Rachel does not particularly enjoy. The first being potatoes. “I know she doesn’t like potatoes, and I just do not understand why,” Kattie added. The second and more unbelievable food is bacon.
Rachel, though not a huge fan of sports, loves watching her Duke men’s basketball team. She does not miss a game, and will taunt opposing fans if the Blue Devils are victorious. She does not watch many NFL games, but also does not miss a Carolina Panthers game. Her favorite player is number eighty-nine, receiver Steve Smith.
According to Kattie, Rachel is not one to be made a fool of. “If she thinks you are trying to pull one on her, she will not take your crap,” Kattie said. Knowing her since she was eleven (Kattie is now twenty-one), she has a say-so when it comes to knowing Rachel. Kattie also mentions that Rachel is extremely caring and giving, and that she will help a friend before helping herself. Again laughing Kattie added that she is, “kind of crazy at times.” After claiming Rachel is one of the funniest people she knows, Kattie also told me how Rachel handles sad commercials and movies. “She is emotional at times, and she will definitely cry during a sad commercial or movie.”
Her favorite shows include one of my own. On Thursdays, Rachel watches “The Office,” which is one of three of her favorite shows. She also enjoys “House,” the hit show about a crazy doctor. Out of all the shows on television, Rachel enjoys Desperate Housewives more than the others. Rachel loves movies, but selected “The Notebook” as her favorite. Rachel’s favorite food is Mexican. When she is back in Raleigh, she eats at her favorite restaurant, Fiesta Mexicana, almost four times a week.
Currently she lives in University Suites apartments, but she plans on moving to The Exchange next semester. Her best friends at East Carolina live at The Exchange, which means next year she will not have to go far to be around them and enjoy their company. According to Rachel’s mom, she has always wanted to be close to her friends. “She just does better when she is around people that she cares about,” Connie said.
Rachel, like me, is a music fanatic. I mentioned before that she used to have an obsession with N’SYNC, but she likes all kinds of music as well. Rachel’s Facebook profile tells a couple of Rachel’s notable musicians, such as Neyo, Trina, and Alicia Keys. You usually do not have to go far to find Rachel either, she enjoys sleeping as much as any of her other hobbies and is sure to get in a nap each day. “Oh Rachel loves to sleep,” Rachel’s good friend Erin says. She also mentioned how when Rachel does not receive her afternoon nap, it is very evident who is edgy that particular day.
Rachel Gaffney is a kind hearted person, who is passionate about particular things in life. She loves sentimental things such as soft music, and The Notebook, but at the same time loves the thrill of Panther football, and Duke basketball. Do not mistake her as being a softy though, Rachel will not let you pull a quick one on her without paying. Rachel, once my partner and girl who sat beside me, is now my friend.
