Lakeisha Goodman is a 21 year old junior who is extremely excited to graduate in May.
After speaking with one of her closest friends I found out how responsible Lekeisha is. Sherrita Williams has known Lakeisha for 12 years. They attended middle school and high school together. They have maintained a close relationship even though they no longer live near each other. Along with being fellow classmates they always attending church together. Sherrita expressed that Lakeisha was always the first person the pastor would go to if he needed something done. She would frequently run errands or do anything that he needed her to do. She was always more than willing to take on any task. Lakeisha is the oldest of five. Having a house full of brothers whose ages range from six to seventeen made her the responsible person she is today. As anyone can imagine it was difficult growing up with five brothers.
As a child coming from a large family Lakeisha also became a very organized individual. According to her mother “she never would leave the house without her planner.” Lakeisha still carries her planner with her wherever she goes. She considers it an accessory to her wardrobe. Her planner helps her to keep meetings, chores, and homework organized.
Lakeisha uses her organizational skills as a part of the marketing committee for the student union. As a part of the marketing committee she helps promote any event on campus that the student union is participating in. This includes hanging posters, participating in give-a-ways and much more. Although not on a specific committee, she also attends meeting every Wednesday night for the Black Student Union.
Lakeisha is a communications major with a concentration in media production. She has also chosen to minor in business administration. Lakeisha really wanted to double major in communications and business administration but just did not feel it would allow her to graduate in a timely manner.
She chose media production because of an extra credit assignment she was given as a junior in high school. For this extra credit assignment she was given a chapter in her book and had to present the chapter to the class in an original way. She really was enthusiastic about the process and presenting her chapter to the class. After this assignment she was eager to develop her research and presentation skills so she decided to take it further with a college degree in media production.
When Lakeisha was a freshman she worked as an office assistant in the school of education. This was a work study program that she got paid to do to help pay for her education. When she was working as an office assistant she met a new friend Shenida Adams. They have been friends for about two and a half years. According to Shenida “they enjoy talking, laughing and shopping together.” They have spent a lot of time together ever since they met at the school of education. They have become really good friends and will continue to be friends after they graduate.
Lakeisha chose East Caroline University because her mom lives in Elizabeth City and her father lives in Fayetteville. Being in Greenville puts her in the middle of both of them. Even though her parents are no longer together she is still very close to both of them. Coming from a large family they value each other a lot. After graduating, Lakeisha plans to move to Virginia Beach. Although she doesn’t really have any ties to Virginia Beach she does know someone who works in a newsroom there and she loves it.
Although Lakeisha is very responsible and organized it does not mean that she doesn’t have time for a little bit of fun. She loves going to the gym, watching old movies like Scareface, spending time with her friends, and has recently picked up cooking. Although her friend Uchenna says she still needs some practice she wants to continue to explore the art of cooking and master it.
