Race is a Factor
It is clear from the votes of the Super Tuesday election that race will play a major role in the nomination for the next president. Hillary Clinton has over 16 years of experience with the Hispanic community, while Barack Obama has just recently started moving in during the February primaries. States such as New Jersey, New York, Illinois, California, and New Mexico have a large population of Hispanics making Obama very aware of the importance of the Spanish speaking community. Clinton swept up the Hispanic votes in Arizona, California, New Jersey, New Mexico, and New York while Obama took his home state of Illinois.
The losses were not discouraging to Obama as he was just endorsed by the La Opinion, which is the largest Spanish-language daily newspaper in Southern California. Obama believes he can capture the Hispanic vote by reaching out to them. Obama will introduce himself and the components of his campaign to try to rally for the Latino vote. While this may be difficult, Obama wants the Latino community to know that he does care. Obama plans to share his views on immigration and helping the communities across the nation to realize that they are not the reason for the lack of jobs in the country.
This election will be a fight to the end. Clinton and Obama both have an extreme amount of support and no one thought it would ever be this close of a race. Now, it is a just a matter of who works harder and gets their name out there into the diverse communities.
