Super Tuesday

The time is upon us yet again. When candidates hold no punches and put everything on the line. This may sound like the Super Bowl but it is much bigger than that, this is Super Tuesday. It was almost impossible to turn on your television Tuesday without hearing some kind of coverage on the elections. For weeks now we have heard about the 2008 Presidential Election. It seems as the coverage starts earlier and earlier during each election. Is America that ready to see George Bush out of office? One thing is certain, the candidates can’t make a move without the public knowing it. Tuesday during the news coverage of previous debates I saw a clip involving Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama. The debate quickly turned into a shouting match between the two senators. Every man has been in that position, nothing you say will make that woman happy. What is the point of them showing this clip over and over? I saw something else that Tuesday that intrigued me. The same two candidates discussing topics openly and respectfully to each other. This shows that it can be done. So what are the television networks trying to do?They are attempting to make our political leaders our next soap opera stars. This is apparently clear. The media doesn’t want to communicate the truth, they communicate what sales. CNN ran some recaps of Super Tuesday that evening. I tuned in to learn the candidates stance on some important topics. Instead the news media stepped in and the only thing I learned was one of the candidates taste in music. Hilary Clinton’s campaign song is Tom Petty’s classic “American Girl”.Is this what our media system has resorted to? Has the media system degenerated that much? Or could it be that us as a people have something very wrong occurring. Our priorities are in someone’s checkbook instead of their best interests.
