The Determined Italian

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the last name Savio? Italian, obviously, but there is so much more when we begin to explore the life of Casey Savio, a 22-year-old senior who has traveled the world, danced her way through school, and fallen in love with Public Relations and Political Science.

Casey was what some would call a normal girl who became interested with the world of ballet at a very young age. She began dancing at two years old and people noticed that this was not only something she liked but also something she was very good at.

By the time Casey was 15 she was accepted into a special school for the arts where she was able to count her dance classes as actual credit hours through her high school career. She performed in countless ballet recitals and excelled in every class she took.

When it came time for her to decide what to do about college the natural thing seemed to lead her in the direction of studying ballet and dance. When she got accepted to East Carolina University, known for its exceptional dance program, she decided to move away from her family in Virginia to pursue her dream.

The farther she got into her freshman year of college the more her horizons seemed to broaden. She was opened up to new things, new degrees and her career possibilities. Halfway through her freshman year she stumbled upon an internship at Fleishman-Hollard Inc., a local Public Relations firm. Even though she had no experience in Public Relations she realized what an incredible opportunity it was to even be considered for this position. She had no idea how it would change her life.

Within weeks of starting her internship, she knew that Public Relations was what she wanted to do. The hustle and bustle of the field excited her and she was hooked. She decided to change her major to Public Relations. She did not totally abandon her love for dance. She was able to easily change it to her minor. Casey was still not quite done changing her major.

Casey’s family has lived in countless places though out her life because of her father’s honorable career in the military. Throughout all of her moving from place to place and from hearing all her dad had learned about the government politics through the military she had a strong interest in that too. She decided to add on another major. Political Science major, so she could one day word in politics and help better the country.

Needless to say that Casey has made her parents and family proud. Her mom Cindy and dad Rob have supported her every step of the way from going to every ballet recital to making it possible for her to attend college today.

There is one other special person in Casey’s life who has encouraged and supported her through her hectic schedule as a college student and that is her boyfriend of two years, Blake. Blake and Casey met through mutual friends during her sophomore year and it was obvious to both of them that they needed each other. Because he graduates in December of 2008 and she in May of 2009, they are both very focused on their exciting futures and careers. They both feel their hard work is going to be paying off very soon. They both want to get established before they get married but there is no doubt in either of their minds that they are in love and in their relationship for the long haul. They are willing to make sacrifices for each other and they want the best for each other.

Through life Casey has kept a strong and level head on her shoulders. She is able to look at situations and challenges as obstacles, that though it may be hard in the end will better her for her future. When she graduates in May with her double major, Casey plans to move to the metro DC area and plans on using her degrees and the things she has learned while at East Carolina University to influence the communities and the world around her.
