The Meaning of Super Bowl

I guess the Super Bowl is really just about enjoying football with friends. At least that’s about as good a guess as I can muster. It’s a tradition of sorts and this year was no different. So there I am watching two teams, that I care nothing about, battle it out for gridiron supremacy while I guiltlessly consume what can only cynically be called sustenance. Well, that’s what I thought I was doing. What I was actually doing was waiting patiently for FOX and their local affiliate to tell me that I could sit and spin for all they care, and they did so promptly.

So there I am baffled that it’s 2008 and I can’t get a reliable picture on my 50-inch TV and wondering whether or not I should make a sacrifice to the obviously angry gods of Broadcasting. And then it hits me like a Charlie Brown special. This prestigious holiday isn’t about Football; it’s about booze, money, and scantily clad women. You know, the important things.
